| The egg came first, because the animals that evolved into chickens were also egg layers. |

The chicken came first because a newly hatched chick wouldn't be able to fend for itself. Even in the absence of predators, chicky would have to be taught how to find food and water, how to avoid the elements, etc. Babies are helpless on their own. And that's assuming the chick could even make its way out of the egg without a parent chicken keeping that egg warm, aiding in the chick's effort to crack the egg, etc.
So the chicken came first. Let's say it was a male chicken, a rooster.
Poultry God (Poultreh) said "What type of mate would you like?"
The rooster replied, "I'd like a partner who fulfills my sexual needs, cooks my meals, does the laundry, takes out the trash, lets me have the remote control, gives me unconditional support but also respects my manly space... and does it all with a smile, without complaint."
Poultreh answered, "Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg."
Sulking a bit but not wholly defeated, the rooster lowered his expectations and his offer:
"Well, what could I get for a rib?" _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |

Of one thing I'm certain:
The egg invented crack.

Hmmm, what kind of dinosaur did chicken evolve from? Could it be the gigantic cassowary-like bird?
I think if we compared the egg to the present chicken, the egg came first, but if we compared it to pre-chicken kind, nonetheless a type of bird, the egg layers came first.
So I think you are probably right, Jamie. |

of course this is a philosophical question about the origin of animal life on the planet.
One egg cannot survive without parental guidance. An egg on its own is eaten as a delicacy in Vietnam. There had to first be a chicken to ensure that egg's survival.
If there was a Big Bang, something had to make the particles move to make it happen -- history is not infinite, matter is not infinitely old, so something had to make it and set it in motion. An empty bowl does not make a cake: you add the eggs, the flour, the sugar, etc., and mix them together to form the batter.
At some point the universe was an empty bowl. Somehow matter was introduced and stirred. Who made that happen? _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |
