Hi Volcano,
Grammatically, the sentence is almost fine. You're missing the article 'the' before the word 'frame'.
However, it doesn't make complete sense, even with the missing article. I'm not sure what you mean by a stretcher line.
The 4 pieces of wood that form the rectangular frame on which the canvas is stapled are themselves known as stretchers.
Could you clarify what you are trying to say by a stretcher line? _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

Ahh, I see. I think you're trying to say that there's small piece of the canvas left over after the canvas was cut away from the frame?
In that case, I think you should use the word 'strip', as in "A small strip of canvas left inside the frame showed where a sharp penknife was used to cut the picture." _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.
