The difference between a date and a meeting is that a date (or appointment) is the agreed meeting time.

Often the word "date" has a romantic connoation as well.

My boss's name is John. I would say "I have a lunch meeting with John" but never "I have a lunch date with John."

Hi Mwewa,

In addition to Chonchita's and Barb's explanations I'd like to point out that we also use the word 'date' in in the following phrases:
- Can we agree on a date for further negotiations?
- Let's try and find another date for our next meeting.
- What date is your birthday?
