My name is Ameer. I am a new member in this wonderful site. Arabic is my language. I am preparing for the ECPE test at the moment. I jsust need to ask a question.

The question concering Wish and the past perfect. As far as I know, we don't use would have with wish for the past, but we can use could have.

I wish I could have been at the weeding, but I was in the New York.

If I was right in the above example why would they use would have in this one.

I wish you would have called me to let me know you couldn't meet me.

Please I need a detailed answer as soon as possible.

Thank you

Hi Ameer,

Welcome!

Quote:
I wish I could have been at the wedding, but I was in the New York
.

This really means: I wish I had been able to ...'

Quote:
I wish you would have called me to let me know you couldn't meet me.

This is incorrect. If you follow the same pattern as the sentence above, you have to use the past perfect as in:

I wish you had called me to let me know ....

The answer key says both had called/would have called are right? Confused

Hi,

This would have to be: I wished I had been old enough to drive.
