Hi, what do you make of the term 'English language practitioner'? I came across it on the website of an English teacher association.

Many thanks,
Torsten

From an English Teacher Association, it's probably a euphemism for a teacher of English... like "sanitation engineer" instead of "trash collector"? I'm kidding of course... without context, I think the term means an English user like you and me.

It strikes me it doesn’t have to be a teacher.

Language practitioner (Translator):

“….A language practitioner is a multiskilled person who has obtained at least a BA degree in languages, and additional qualifications in linguistics. The may include diplomas or post graduate degrees in editing, translation, interpreting, terminology, development or copywriting….”

and:

“..language practitioners provide a language service in all the official languages and in many foreign languages…”
