. It is a pun on 'the lead pipe'. It is a reference to the board game 'Clue', in which the players compete to determine (1) the name of the murderer (Col. Mustard, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, etc), (2) the scene of the crime (Billiard Room, Kitchen, Ballroom, etc) and (3) the weapon (lead pope, knife, revolver). When a player thinks that s/he has discovered all three facts, s/he announces it with a similar sentence:
"It was Miss Scarlett in the Ballroom with the lead pipe!" . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Thanks a bunch Mister Micawber,
I really don't have a 'clue' that it could be a pun of 'the lead pipe'...!!
Though I guess that you're absolutely right in this case, I still don't understand
why he said that. It seemed irrelevant to the context/story.

. I haven't seen the show, but I presume that it is just Cole's little joke in passing-- he is being called into the boss's office, which normally means trouble for the employee. 'Stapler' because those are usually found in offices. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Thanks for more explanation Mister Micawber.
In addition, normally we don't call 'Stapler' with the adjective 'Lead' , do we? |
