Sentence: There is a tendency to feel that quite a few, especially young people

"There is a tendency to feel that quite a few, especially young people, spend most of their time sitting in front of their computer screens to go on the Internet."

As far as I know, quite a few = many, so can 'quite a few' stand alone without a noun because I once saw 'many' stand alone like: 'many think that...' instead of 'many people think that...'
I also wonder if this sentence is correct as to the grammar. Can anyone help me?? Thanks a heap

It does, however, sit rather uncomfortably in your sentence, since there is some confusion as to whether 'quite a few' is a pronoun referring to people in general or an adjective modifying 'young people'. "There is a feeling that quite a few people, especially young people, spend most of their time sitting in front of their computer screens surfing/accessing/using the Internet."

Your explanation is absolutely clear to me. Even so, the verb "go on" which i had checked up in the collocation dictionary also means 'to surf' the Internet and I think it is ok in my sentence.
