later vs. late

Hello, I have a lot of questions today :)

It's going to rain later today.

How about 'late' instead of 'later'? If it's not possible, please let me know why.

Hi,

'Late today' suggests towards the end of the day in contrast to 'early'. 'Later' on the other hand indicates not now but further on in the day.
