Hi Diverhank,
I´m not sure about my imagination but the term "Thanksgiving" has the sense of praising God or Gods for a good crop. In Germany you might do that on the "Erntedankfest" -day. What differs a lot is the point of time when it´s celebrated here since "Erntedankfest" is a day at the end of October (as far as I remember). It is when agriculturists have cut the maize ( commonly acknowdleged to be the last corn in the year to be cropped ).
Nonetheless, happy Thanksgiving. _________________ "Ho ho!" said the clown |

The girlfriend and I went to her brother's place in Clarksville (TN).
Her brother's wife supplied the following (an introduction to standard US Thanksgiving fare):
Turkey Mashed potatoes Stuffing (AKA "dressing") Sweet potatoes Green bean casserole Cranberry sauce Rolls Gravy (to cover the turkey, mashed pot and dressing)
That was plenty but she also saw fit to add devilled eggs, which were awesome.
The GF and I brought the following for dessert:
Pumpkin pie (Thanksgiving staple food) Apple pie (as American as...)
We stuffed ourselves and watched some NFL football (the Titans killed the 0-12 Lions). When it was time to leave, the brother's wife packed at least half of the left-overs and sent them with us -- pound of turkey, pound of mashed potatoes, dressing, all the rest). God bless his newest saint. _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |
