2. She telephoned rather than write.
3. She telephoned rather than to write.
4. She telephoned rather than writing.

#1 is quoted from A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language.
Are #2, #3 and #4 also acceptable?

Hi Sitifan,

From the point of view of balance (as in 1) it would be better to make both verbs have the same tense - past tense in your examples. I would not use 3 and 4 but 2 is acceptable.
