Dears,
My name is Zarinamo and I am a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan.
I am going to apply for Masters Programme abroad and I need to write a statement of purpose for Master of Public Policy Programme. I need an advise how to write such a statements to be admitted to the University. I made some research on the Internet, found some information but that information is general. Nothing specific.
The problem is, in Tajikistan we do not need any statement of purpose to be admitted to any our Universities. Therefore I do not have a base.
Is it possible for you to help me with recommendations and suggestions?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Regards,
Zarinamo |

| Hi Torsten, It's very nice to hear from you. Thank you very much for sending the lessons so promptly. It's just great. I took the test and got 8 out of 10. I could understand most of the things what Sue Darville says in the audio recording. But unfortunately, I am not very familiar with British English accent. Since I live in the US, I am more comfortable with American English. I am originally from India. Now I am a Canadian citizen. We came to Canada in 1997 and we lived there for 6 years. Then we moved to US. I am in this forum to improve my writing skills. I am sure that you'll help me to achieve my goal. Please let me know what should be my next step. Looking forward to hear from you. |

Hiya all,
I've been struggling with my writing skill for sooo long! No matter how I was studying I wasn't progressing at all. I've found the very interesting way to boost your own writing skill. First of all what I did; I went to English native speaking forums. At a very, very beginning I was only reading them, then gradually I started to posting some threads on the forums. And after sometimes, I fully participated with communications. I've noticed that It's much easier and faster way to improve your writing skills. My vocabulary extremely started to expanding. It's really really great! I've found that for me now so much easier to write down what I think, to participate with discussion, and so on....
The other thing I founded greatest and fantastic; is to write down everything what you've done today, yesterday, etc...
I think it's great idea to find some English forum, which is interesting you there more, and then try to read more the threads as you can, don't be afraid to start up you own topic as well! If you explain that you're foreigner, the people will understand you. Just try and you'll see how quickly you're English skill are improving!!
Good luck to everyone! |

Thanks SkiIuck, It's really great experience! I was shying at a very beginning, but later I said to myself, If 'm going to sit like that I won't get anywhere. My writing skill is not 100% perfect yet! But compare myself just few month ago, and now, it's big difference! |

Here is my attempt to write. Please let me know what you think.
I am sitting in my room and looking on the trees in my garden. Wind is blowing from right and from left, talking to leafs . Those who agree with the wind - fly and lay on ground. Those who don't believe the whisper of wind - "winter is close" stay with the tree and hope for more sun and bees. Life is eternal struggle for ideas and beliefs. |

Hi Embee,
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us. I am so excited to know this simple way to improve my writing skills. I'll definitely try it. I use to visit different English native speaking forums everyday. But haven't fully participated onto it. I will try to contribute on those forums from today onwards. I hesitate to write down on the forum. I always have a fear that I'll make chili mistakes. That's the main obstacle to improve my English. I am a very confident person. But with English I am not at all confident. I agree with you that writing about your daily life is a fantastic way to improve English. By the way, where are you from? Are you a student? |

Hiya Sumumon,
I'm currently in Ireland, part time student, and part time employed. I'm planning of to applying either next year or after next year into Midwifery school, so definitely I need Upper Intermediate to Advance level. My advise to you; Keep going to the English forums, don't hesitate to ask of something, or to tell what you think, to express your opinion. Just DON'T afraid and keep it going!!! After sometimes you'll see, and even surprise on your self, how greatly you progressing. Really, I was like you, I was sitting for ages thinking what I was going to write...? What if I was going to look silly? And people start to laugh at me..? There was sooo many thing what was holding me back, and honestly, that was keeping me from my progress. Later, I just said to myself: ENOUGH! And started to posting some threads, talking to people, and so on. There will be always some one who will understand you and will be always glad to talk to you. You'll see as well those people who will be ignoring your threads, but you know what? You know what exactly you're looking for! And why you're there! The other thing, about your vocabulary. I know it's really hard to learn all new words in order, I myself I gave up of learning that way. The greatest way to boost your vocabulary, is to read as much as you can, and belief me, new words in any text mush easier to remember than learning them in order. I'm not discouraging people from learning new words, I'm just trying to say that It's mush easier to remember by reading loads of books, threads, articles, etc. So just give your self try, and you'll remember what I've said to you. Best of luck to you! |

Where do you live in Ireland? How is the education system there? What is Midwifery school? Hope to hear from you all about these. |

Hi summon,
No I wasn't born in Ireland :) , I'm Russian, and I came to Ireland in 2002. When I arrived here I couldn't even say a word in English, was soo difficult for me to communicate with people at that period. Now I remember myself with smile :) . Education here is other story. Certainly here is not like in UK, but people do like to get educated here. Must education here is private, and cost pretty good I have to say :? , I don't know how foreigners managing to pay school fees for their education here, it's must be hard for some students to manage. Like if you're not EU or an Irish citizen you have to pay approximately from 8000-17000 € per year. If you're an EU citizen then you'll pay only school registration fee, which is only 1500€. As well any students whom English is not their primary language have to proof of their English competence. Score vary, depends on college requirements. Like where I hopping o apply, I need to show certificate in English competence; They excepting; TOEFL computer test with minimum score of 233, TOEFL iBT test with minimum score of 90, Cambridge certificate CAC with C1 grade, and CPC with grade C2. They do also excepting IELTS certificate with minimum score 6.5 band and no less than 6. It's hard though to pass all those test, but if you have strong desire I belief that you can make it. I going to sit TOEFL iBT test in 31 October, honestly I'm not sure if I going to make it :? , test itself look pretty hard, so I booked the other test on the 20 December and it going be Cambridge exam.
Here in Ireland I'm staying in Dublin, it's a capital of Ireland, with lots of industries and educational centers all over the Dublin. I'd recommend anyone to visit Dublin, it's a great beautiful city.
Midwifery school is the medical school, usually known as Nursing&Midwifery school. Midwifery is the very unique profession, which involved into look after women and infants daring pregnancy and birth, and daring post natal period i.e after birth. It's really hard to get in, because competition is very very high. Maybe a bit easier to get in for school leavers, but not for mature students. For me to get in I have to apply true CAO, and then I will be called for the test.Test itself not that much hard, but because time is very limited many people just could not pass it from their first attempt. Test itself divide in to 3 part. Personal questioner, which is last only 30 min, and this test measure each candidate if he/she will be able to do such job as a Nurse/Midwife. The other test part is verbal test, this test measure each candidate ability to work with pair of words, look like simple one, but time also very limited only 20 min. And third part is the hardest part; maths, they give you numerical logical test, which measure each candidate ability to work quick and accurately with the numbers. And only last 15 min!!! Some thin like which number is coming next? 2,6,8,12...?...18 definitely 16, it comes in addiction, like 2+4+2+4 and so on, there is not only addiction, as well it comes on multiplication, division, etc. And not in order like I wrote above, it comes usually in column orcycle and different figures. Ahh if you don't practice much, certainly you'll fail.
If you pass test, you'll be called for interview, if you pass, you'll be offered the place. Some people practicing for a year! And I'm not surprise why.
What about you? where are you from? How is your own education its running? I'm looking forward to hear from you. |
