How can I improve my writing skills? #257 (permalink) Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:20 pm   How can I improve my writing skills?

I want to improve my English and for this I have decided that everyday I will draft one letter/ passage and post it on Forum. Folks please correct it and please help me out to improve my communication. Torsten its my request to your.. Please send your comments on this draft.

Dear Mr. Balan

Its with great regret and misgivings that I am writing this mail to you. Mr. Balan as you are aware that iPrimed has corporate A/c [ 308917913] in your bank since, July 2009. And please know that till now we have maintained our A/c with substantial amount of balance.
As a part of business our company often receives foreign investments, and according to RBI rule within 15 days of receipt of amount in A/c ,FIRC has to be issued for the same. In our previous discussion on above topic I had clearly stated about all the problems I faced for FIRC and Unique registration No. However, to my dismay, once again I am struggling to get FIRC on time which is highly unacceptable. Mr. Balan when you took over the charge as Chief Manager SBI Jaynagar Branch , during our first meeting you ensured me that, I will always get dependable services from your end, as you have very rich experience in Foreign exchange, but unfortunately and to my disappointment, even after the submission of cheque of GBP 12,900/-, 24 days back, still I haven’t received FIRC for the same.
Mr. Balan your imperfect services has forced me to take this action and shift my A/C to some other bank
Kindly let me know the formalities for it.

Regards,
Gazal

How can I improve my writing skills? #260 (permalink) Mon Jan 11, 2010 15:24 pm   How can I improve my writing skills?

Learning new words/terms and how/where to use them, reading books, novels, articles, etc and checking with a native English speaker helps me a lot to improve my writing skills.
Here's my short text:

I'm a Gemini (for those who don't know what that is, Gemini is a zodiac sign for all births between May 20 and June 21). It's the sign of The Twins. It symbolizes a dual nature. We are the living proof of life itself as it comes in pairs: good and bad, black and white, etc. Being a Gemini, I'm "doomed" to be talkative (and I love it >=]). Geminis also accept differences easily and we are very moody; we can go from amused to bored in a heart beat which reminds me of that Geminis get bored very easily. That's why if you wanna last long with a Gemini, you gotta be VERY entertaining and always come up with new things and ideas. People may think we're shallow because we change as wind changes but that does not make us shallow! C'mon! It makes us flexible and adaptive! Other traits of Geminis are: curious, brainy and versatile. Moreover, we are the Gods of communication! That is because the Gemini sign is an Air sign (Air represents movement) which makes us thinkers meaning we have active minds and a good command of language. That's why we shine in TV and Radio careers. Did I mention we're extremely charismatic? :-P. If you want to know what planet rules us, here's a hint: The Messenger of the Gods -_^. That's right! It's Mercury! It revolves around the sun faster than any other planet and it's in charge of all language. Normally, Geminis motto is "a rolling stone gathers no moss" or "a jack of all trades (and a master of none, as some might slyly add)". I remember I wanted tell you one more thing about Geminis but I've talked too much and now I forgot what it was. I love being a Gemini and I hope you love us too ^^;

CHeeRz,
Chiquitita

PS: I've just remembered: Geminis are eternally young. We don't grow old. Well, maybe physically but NEVER in spirit -_^.

Yeah, that`s really a great idea!!! Just because of some practice for everyone. Unfortunately a lot of people are really afraid of writing and even more importantly-posting. And that is really a problem I should say. As for me, I think I`ll write something for sure/ Besides I can try and write some monologues of mine which I`m going to present at my exams during this session, and that would be nice if somebody read them, criticized or just dwelled on them..just for fun or..well, I don`t know if anybody has enough time I`ll apreciate the fact that somebody really DOES read my small compositions.
Well, I think it`s only up to a person: whether he wants to share and to try or not.

But still it`s a great idea and I`ll write if I find enough time for sure!

How can I improve my writing skills? #262 (permalink) Thu Jan 14, 2010 10:59 am   How can I improve my writing skills?

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum. And to be honest, I always hesitated to write, always thought that I couldn't write. And hence never wrote a lot. As a known fact that practice is a must for perfection, as a result of which my writing skills remain immature.
I recently went through a tormenting period of MBA entrance examinations(written), and through much hard work and determination got myself booked for the GD/PI rounds of many reputed colleges. Now the GD/PI rounds of these colleges also includes essay writing task and even an extempore sometimes. I fear that all my persistent hard work would all be of no use if I will not be able to write even a single essay properly.
As the famous saying goes, none one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.I still have a month before my interviews start. So I fell I still have enough time. I would really appreciate that anyone could please read this and some of my later posts and point out my mistake, so that I can improve with every passing day. I feel, I'm really poor in the punctuation and tenses sometimes . I'd really appreciate the help.

I am writing this article regarding shopping and how we can make it in to diet and exercise. In order to keep ourselves healthy, we need to diet and exercise. That’s the only way we can reach our full potentials that lie within us. Best way to exercise we can choose something that keeps us entertained. As long as we enjoy what we doing, we will look forward to doing it day after day.
Before we start doing the exercise we need to find out the activities that keep us entertained. There are lots of activities that you can choose from dancing, yoga, running, or you can do something like what I do. I invite my friends we go shopping. Window Shopping is something fun as well as you can lose more calories by walking around malls. When you try on clothes, you also lose calories. There is a catch to it that is if you eat at the fast food restaurant then all the calories you loss can be gained back from that one meal. So , you have to watch out what you order- for example you can try something salad from Mcdonald or Sandwich from Subway. As far as I know, they are very healthy.

I am trying to improve my writing skills. Please advice me.
Thank you,

How can I improve my writing skills? #264 (permalink) Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:43 am   How can I improve my writing skills?

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

English is taught in my home country, Jordan, but It is not practised. So I only had the chance to practise English when I came to Britain in 2006 when I pursued a one year MSc in Engineering. I've been in Britain since and I got to say that my speaking, listening and reading have improved significantly. However, I'm still struggling with my writing (as you might notice ) and I can be easily spotted that I'm not a native speaker and have weakness in writing. I have been trying my best but I always bump into people who mock my English the minute they read my writing. Therefore, I feel like I haven't been learning English or even ashamed. I would highly appreciate any advice on how to improve my writing.

Thanks in advanced.

writing can be improved but the most imporrtant thing is your sentences should be correct gramatically.

Hello Palstudent10,
You should read more English books, novels or even newspapers that are written by English native speakers and be patient during reading. By that way, you will learn more wonderful expressions that may improve your writing skills.
Let me know what you think.
