Hi, how do you pronounce the abbreviation "Ms"? I always thought it would 'miz' until I found this:

Remember: "Ms" is pronounced "Muzz", where the "u" rhymes with the "u" in "put".

So what do you say?
Thanks,
Torsten

I thought 'miz' was right, but it sounds like 'mis' to my ears. At least the natives around me pronounce that way.

I found it on an ESL website called The English Web. It's run by Clare Whitmell, a native speaker of English.

Come to think of it, miz and muzz can be almost the same thing...

Hmm, I've only heard it as miz.

Muzz sounds like some kind of parody of a southern US accent.

I've mostly heard it pronounced "mis".

"put" and "mis/miz" shouldn't rhyme.

hid, kid, lid, did

vs.

put, took, look, shook

... two distinct vowel phonemes.

Native Nashvillians (aside from the twerps who mimic the Valley "occent" they hear on TV...) pronounce the "ih" vowel as "ee-uh":

In : Ee'un
Did : Dee'ud

etc.
