I couldn't agree with you more! (What's the meaning of this sentence) #27 (permalink) Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:05 am   I couldn't agree with you more! (What's the meaning of this sentence)

Hi Torsten and everyone,

Many thanks for the lessons and for your continuous cooperation.
Could you please explain the following question?

I read this conversation in a book for TOEFL test:
- (woman) That lecture was absolutely fascinating!

- (Man) I couldn’t agree with you more!

- (Question) What does the man mean?

The answer choices:
(a) He prefers not to argue about it.
(b) He disagrees with the woman.
(c) He shares the woman’s opinion.
(d) He wasn’t able to hear the lecture.

The right answer is choice (c).
My question is how choice (c) is correct and not choice (b)? Because the sentence “I couldn’t agree with you more!” is negative as I understood.

Please help me solving this confusion with many thanks.

M.

Congrats..Khalid..! you have come to the right place..here you can use all these tests available to first improve your vocabulary as well as grammar. Eventhough we have finished our college courses, we are not able to compose sentences with the correct usage of grammar in English, for example using the prepositions..What I have wirtten is from my own experience..and the Rome was not built within a night..

Hi Majid..don't you think you have to use the capital I for representing yourself in any sentence..or don't you have time to press that shift key..? If you type your posts in a word processing program like Ms-Word, the common grammar errors can be avoided before posting..right..?

Capitalization and punctuation are also equally important in English grammar as any other grammar rule....

Let us learn and correct from our common mistakes..
