i'm writing a paper for my art history class and am having a serious problem that is nowhere to be found on the internet (except here, i hope).
i have a quote and used an ellipses to omit the part that i didn't want to include. the sentence then picks up again, but i think it would sound better/be more grammatically correct if there was a semicolon or a colon.
take a look. here's the original quote:
"As a result, the work of art is seen less as a unique object made by a particular person and more as an object that someone stamps or signs off on. The artists becomes a kind of brand name, labeling his product."
[later on in the same paragraph:]
"In accordance with this shift, the work of art is no longer viewed as a screen to an inside... [omit 3 unnecessary clauses]... but rather as an avatar, emblem or logo"
here's the sentence i'm trying to write. i know it is not correct.
Subsequently, the sui generis nature of the piece once created by an individual becomes merely "an object that someone stamps off on...[*]... an avatar, emblem, or logo" representing the brand name or artist.
should there be something where the asterisk is placed? it looks and sounds funny.
please help.
in gratitude, - "a desperate student"
p.s. i know this is an obnoxiously long post. so whoever even reads it, thank you for taking the time to do so. happy holidays. |
