Can I say "I've decided to choose my mother's trade" in the sense of choosing to be part of her "cast", group of people with the same profession?

Thanks in advance.

'Trade', when used nowadays, usually refers to craftsmen or commercial concerns-- plumbers, merchants, typesetters. If your mother is of that ilk, then yes.
