Hi Gheon,
In the test sentence - It's on the corner of 7th and Main' - '7th' is a description of the street or if you like, its name. It is not necessarily telling you that this is the seventh street. We would say - Walk down 5th Avenue and then take the second turning/street on your left.

Thanks a lot! After your explanation it looks evident:) _________________ I find your Lack of Faith disturbing!

http://www.english-test.net/toeic/listening/confirming_an_order_on_the_phone.html I get it that "manila folders" are "documents holders", but what does "legal envelope" mean? Is it some kind of an envelope of standardized size? 216 * 355 mm?
Also, there's a small mistake in: 'Hmm... well, I'll guess we'll have to go with the expedited, then.' _________________ I find your Lack of Faith disturbing!

Either can be used, Gheon. One is an expansion of the other (often unnecessary, but common use all the same).
In this case, I think the expanded version of the sentence provides extra assurance to the customer. (I'll make sure it works by (personally) checking it.) _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi Gheon, I'm afraid I can't follow. Both words are spelled correctly -- recyclables and leave. What exactly do you think is the error? Many thanks, Torsten

I'm afraid that the weary mind had played a trick on me. The second sentence is alright. But the first one misses 'c' in the middle of "recy..lables". _________________ I find your Lack of Faith disturbing!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. This is what it says: Recyclables are Wednesday...

Hi Torsten, Sometimes we all benefit from a fresh pair of eyes in order to read what is written rather than what we think is there. :) Gheon is talking about the transcript at the bottom of the page rather than the question. In the transcript, you can read: Yes, I'm new to the city and I'm trying to figure out how garbage and recycle collection work. It's my understanding that garbage is collected on Wednesdays, and recylables such as paper, plastic and glass are collected on Thursdays. Is that correct?

Spot on! I was talking about the transcript. I usually read it after the listening part is over in search of new words & expressions. Also one can polish his pronunciation here. _________________ I find your Lack of Faith disturbing!

http://www.english-test.net/toeic/listening/company_executive_gives_recommendations_on_what_to_order_at_business_dinner.html The question is like this: "What does the woman suggest for the man?" The transcript is like this: "Personally, I recommend the lobster. It's fresh from Maine -- the best in town. But the steaks are also quite good. They use only grass-fed Angus cows. And for dessert, you've got to try the New York Cheesecake!" The correct answer said to be this: New York cheesecake. The word personally suggests that the main course should be lobster while cheesecake & steaks are also good, but not that good as lobster. If it is so then the question needs to be reformulated somehow else. F.e. What does the woman suggest for the dessert? _________________ I find your Lack of Faith disturbing!
