example : they have a book

or

they have three books

it could be if we say

Rani and leo have a red book

or because the subject are two so we have to write

Rani and leo have red books

Sir, it must be the object in plural too

It depends on how many books there are. If they share a single book: 'Rani and Leo have a red book'. If they each have one, so that there are 2 books: 'Rani and Leo have red books'.
