''In the 1998 World Cup, he became England's youngest international of the 20th century when he made his debut against Chile.
In 2001 sports journalists voted him the European Footballer of the year.''

This is an extract from a topic about Michael Owen
My 1st question is
Do you think that there is a missing word in this extract? What I mean to say is that when I read the topic about Michael Owen I felt that there is a missing word in the above extract.
To be more specific, in the phrase … England's youngest international …
I think there should be a word after international
So, the whole sentence will be like this:
England's youngest international footballer/player or something like that
Am I right or not?
Since this topic is written by a person who has a very good command in English, I was doubtful whether it is right or it is mistyping.

I think the word that should come right after "international" would be understood by the British, but my American brain is unable to figure out exactly what word it should be. This usage of "international" is not international.
