. True. Why would you think that the first is correct? . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Good morning and thanks again Mister Micawber.
First of all my native language is Spanish and option number one is how I personally use it in everyday talking.
Second of all, the way I understand "as" is as follows: a.-Conjunction/connector. b.-Preposition
As a conjunction is bringing two verbs together, there is a pronoun followed by a verb which tells me that I can use it. Now I am not implying the idea that I will stick to it from here on, but rather to explain to you why I use it. Does it convey the wrong idea or it just downright does not make sense? Once again I thank you your kidness.
God bless you. Cisco. _________________ Please, always correct me if I have made any kind of mistakes in my posts. |

. As as a conjunction has limited meanings:
1. To the same degree or quantity that. Often used as a correlative after so or as:The situation is not so bad as you suggest. 2. In the same manner or way that: Think as I think. 3. At the same time that; while: I slipped on the ice as I ran home. 4. For the reason that; because: I went to bed early, as I was exhausted. 5. With the result that: He was so foolish as to lie. 6. Though: Great as the author was, he proved a bad model. Ridiculous as it seems, the tale is true. 7. In accordance with which or with the way in which: The hotel is quite comfortable as such establishments go. The sun is hot, as everyone knows. 8. Informal That: I don't know as I can answer your question.
Only #8 seems to fit your meaning, yet it still sounds odd to my ears. I would expect as if. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

| Why is "a part of" - incorrect; "a large part" - correct? | Idioms: be next to impossible; from time immemorial |
