If you are not a native English speaker, I have a little quiz for you. It requires some understanding of culture in the US (and maybe other places).

A couple of days ago, a lady said to me:

"Just leave your coat over by juice and cookies."

Now the question: Where was I, and what was I doing when the lady said this to me?

You were at a party, or at a charity event and obviously you just arrived and asked the lady where to put your coat. Smile

I think the lady said that just to tell you that juice and cookies are served at that event. People do this so people will come to their event. Sometimes people serve cheese. Is that correct?

But I've heard that nowadays people don't do cookies anymore, cupcakes are more "in".
Is that true?

That's really interesting ! I would like to know more such expressions which requires understanding the culture, I am in. Smile

Okay, this is just a wild guess. You just donated your blood so they served you juice and cookies.

Very Happy

You win the prize! At the blood donation center they have several stations, and the last station is for juice and cookies to bring the donor's blood sugar up.

But what about the things I asked you? The cupcakes VS cookies thingy. Are they true? I was more confident with that answer. Laughing

I don't know about cupcakes. They are messier to eat, so I can't imagine them being more popular for an adult party than cookies. You may be right, though.

They look nicer though. But of course I love them both.

Cookies can be awfully pretty, though, if they're decorated well.
