'Nippy' means 'bitingly cold' To nip at something to take a small bite. Squirrels nip. Here in this context it means the climate is very cold. 'Mild' may mean acold that is not in any way severe but enjoyable.

Generally speaking, "biting cold" means "extremely cold", and "nippy" means "a little bit cold".

In bitingly cold weather, I might choose to wear a down-filled jacket. In nippy weather, a lightweight sweater would generally be adequate.

Me too,

I'd like to know what does 'mild' mean if nippy turned to be : a little bit cold.

Would be good to add "outside" at the end of the sentence.

ESL Expert is correct.

'nippy' is a little cold. 'mild' is moderate - not warm, but not cold.

Gheon - it can be nippy inside too! ("I will leave my coat on because it feels nippy in this room".)

It's kind of cold today. I think I'm going to bring a sweater because it's so ..........

I thought that the last: it's so....describes the sweater and chose ,,warm''(in pdf's tests) or ,,hot'' in this test on this website, because we know that the weather is cold so we need warm/hot sweater.

But second time : it's so...can mean weather.

Anyway: it's so....- is equivocal, what do you think our English Experts?
Thank you for any remark.

'it's so' in this case describes the weather... however the sentence can be confusing if taken on face value, because the last noun is 'sweater' so 'it' should describe the sweater.
Common sense needs to be applied. I suspect any native English speaker would understand the reference without thinking too much about it.
Alternatively to avoid ambiguity perhaps the test should read:
It's kind of cold today. I think I'm going to bring a sweater because the weather is so ..........

Dear Beeesneees, thank you, yes- I like your last sentence very much.
could you please explain me: ''if take on face value'', shouldn't it be : ''if takes...?''

It's a typo. I meant to write 'if taken on face value'. I can't have pressed the n key hard enough. I've corrected it now.

thanks, the expression: to take something at its face value is a new one for me, but I found it in www.ling.pl, so I don't need to ask you if these two mean the same: as its face value=on face value?
