Hi,

I have some questions on 'why don't you~', which is used as a suggestion. For example, 'Why don't you have a cup of coffee with me?', etc.

How about this? :

A: I don't like her very much.
B: Why don't you like her?

In that case, I think B doesn't suggest something like "I suggest you like her." Instead, B is just asking why A does not like her: the reason why A hate her. Right? What do you think? In this situation, is there any chance for you to think B is suggesting?

Thank you in advance,
sweetpumpkin

You're right. In this case, "Why don't you..." is a real question, and the speaker is really hoping for an answer.
