TOEFL essay: Smoking is harming our society. Do you agree with this? #1 (permalink) Thu Jan 01, 2009 15:38 pm   TOEFL essay: Smoking is harming our society. Do you agree with this?

Nowadays, as the view of economic growth, people’s demands for a better living condition are in need. However, a number of people are accustomed to smoking as a daily routine way. There are several reasons for holding my opinion. Smoking is not only resulted in lung cancer but also causes bad influences to our community.

First of all, smoking is the fundament of lung cancer. Lung is over-suffered to those who smoke two or three packet of cigarette a day. Some tally show that numbers of people admitted to hospital are increasing rapidly in recent years. Thus, smoking regularly wills plaque the blood, create stuffy, have a strong breath and especially result in lung cancer, which can’t be treated at this time.

Next, smoking will have bad effects to our community. Why I think that is because, particularly in our family, children are tend to imitate what adults do. If they see their father or mother smoke, they are in preference to copy as their parents. Besides, smoking, in some how, would rather affect people breathing the smoking air than those who actually smoke. The last but not least, smoking will delete our country scene. Let’s take Singapore as a symbolic example of a country which solves this problem well by hard policies. Otherwise, in some developing countries such as our country-Viet nam, the consciousnesses are unacceptable, although our government has enforce some strict rules to this problems. Exhausted sewage and dust are released with a huge quantity every day without control.

To sum up, I totally agree that smoking is harming our health step by step. Hence, having good policy and teaching awareness for people are really in need, which will help our country develops permanently.
