Are these sentences correct:

1-Study the Middle Eastern religions for 1000 years before Christianity came into being.

2-Study the Middle Eastern religions that existed in the 1000 years before Christianity came into being.

1 is incorrect, because it is asking the person transport himself to the year 1000 B.C., and then to study for a thousand years. It's impossible because (a) time travel hasn't been invented yet, and (b) people's lives don't last 1,000 years.

2 is fine.
