Which of the following sentences sounds better?

1) He is awaiting a grand reception.
2) A grand reception is awaiting him.

I read somewhere that await something is correct but not await somebody. Is it true?

Both of the sentences are correct but the second one is more used than the other
and all the uses that I found in the dictionnary is about awaiting sth
