Do you read that book? / Are you reading that book? #1 (permalink) Fri Jan 09, 2009 21:41 pm   Do you read that book? / Are you reading that book?

Hi

How should I ask when I point at a book?

1) Do you read that book?
OR
2) Are you reading that book?

My confusion comes from the fact that we can use Present Continuous not only for an activity happening at the moment but also for an activity happening around that time.

What is the difference then?
Do I just ask "Is it your habit to read that book?" with the first question and about the activity of reading it with the second question?

Could you please give your opinion on these questions?

Thanks

No. 1 means, "Is it your habit to read that book?"

No. 2 means, "Are you in the middle of reading that book?" (Not exactly the middle, but I think you get the idea.)
