Hello,

Most of you are probably aware of who discovered Troy - Heinrich Schliemann. However, most of you probably don't know he knew about ten languages with the interesting thing being he learnt each of them for two-three months. After googling the matter, I managed to dig up te method - comparative reading. Now, this intrigued me a lot. So simple - taking two texts, one in the studied language and one in your own, and examining them. It is advised not to use any grammar books or dictionaries, but to rather rely on one's own common sense.

What do you think of this approach? Have you had any previous experience with it?

Thanks

hello
I think it's a very useful approach because studying grammar is too hard and maybe you spend a lot of time with no clear result, another way is to learn phrases only it is a very useful method, throw away all grammar textbox , dictionaries and learning how to use phrases properly.

I think that approach is VERY good, but I don't think it will be very effective in isolation. Some amount of grammar explanation is necessary, however, because people who are simply comparing texts back and forth are liable to mistake one grammatical structure for the wrong one in their own language.

Hi
I think this is a good idea but even you fallow this approach, you have a problem with grammar structure ,however, with my experience, the grammar is very important to give you a good explanaition for the text, wich means we understand the text through the grammar..

hello

grammar is necessary for any language, specially for beginners ,but what I'm saying is....it's a very useful method to learn how to speak automatically by listening to native speakers. after a while you will see that grammar comes out of your mouth automatically.
