The day before yesterday, I found a paragraph I wrote about 4 years ago. Actually, I bowed my head in shame when I read it (you will know why). At the same time, I felt very proud of it (you will know why). So, I have decided to share it with you. I will tell you the why behind sharing this at the end.
First, I will show you the aforesaid paragraph, and then show another one I have written recently.

I am sure you have noticed yourself why I hung my head in shame and why I felt proud, too. The sole aim of writing this post, however, is not to boast about the progress I have made, but to urge others on. (It is not that huge amount of progress, but still I should be thankful for small mercies and grateful that I make few flagrant mistakes). I do not want other members to have a low self-esteem. I want them to believe in themselves and their ability to learn English. So, let us set goals right now and work to achieve them. Make NinaZara’s signature ‘try your best and damn the rest’ your motto from now and on.

Awesome ! I don't know how relevant it is to quote Aristotle here. May be, the only way from 'shame' to 'proud' is 'to act'.

"Those who act win, rightly win, the most noble and good things in life."

To learn from errors is not a shame. Only fools don't learn from mistakes. I'd like to be proud of my English tomorrow, as you are today

Your progress is really substantial. Just like Gray said, awesome! I think your post will inspire people more than those 6 words I use as a signature. Wink

I wish I could see how I used to write back then. And I think it is really cool you are sharing it with us. Bravo.

I wrote that because it is clear that Nina's English is much better than mine.

Now, Mouhcine, you know that is not true. I am still learning, as you are still too. Wink

To Alfwm:

"Damn the rest" is not really damning anybody or anything. At least to me it is not. But it is kind of harsh, isn't it? Hmmm.

However, it is only an expression to say that you don't care about what others think and you are focused in what you are trying to achieve.

Hope this explains everything. Smile

We are still learning in the same 'school', but we are not in the same class. You are in an advanced class whereas I am in an intermediate one.

I thought he asked about "Not as bad as I used to write, Nina."

There are expressions that need an explanation. Being severe with ourselfs makes us to achieve many goals, and if we are focused much better, but I'd like you you left sometime for relax, ha ha ha Smile

Oh, nothing, really. Just that, to you the phrase might really mean "damning the rest who are in your way". Laughing

For me damn the rest means do not think about them. I will not give a tinker's damn to people who are in my way. But I will challenge them.

Very Happy

For me, the hardest part, or the biggest hurdle is challenging myself. Once I get over it, I really don't care much what others think.

Then you should change your signature to something like try your best, and do not care much about the rest.
(just a suggestion)
