She said that Pushkin wrote many fabulous novels. - can we use here past
simple because that is the fact known by everyone or it's better to use had
written?

Simple past. There is no call for using past perfect unless perhaps 'she' is speaking in the time of Pushkin.

Hi Penuel,

If you used the past perfect in your sentence, you would then have to relate it to a previous time as in: She said he had written many novels before he reached the age of forty.
