Past or Present Tense? #1 (permalink) Mon Jan 12, 2009 22:36 pm   Past or Present Tense?

What did you say your name was? or What did you say your name is?

Can anyone tell me which is correct?

I think your name is as that name is still that person's name but for some reason this sounds wrong and what did you say your name was sounds better.

Thanks!

.
Both are fine. He continues to have the same name at the present moment, so the speaker has the option of regressing with the main verb ('did say') or keeping it in the present.
