Hi,

I'm always curioius about how to read out the Books of the Bible. For example:

Let's take a look at 1 Samuel 1:16.

How to read '1 Samuel 1:16'? "One Samuel One Sixteen"? or "Samuel One chapter one verse 16"? Would you tell me how to read it?

Then, how about 'Psalm'? We Koreans have a different way to call 'a chapter' of psalm- we call it 'a piece', not 'a chpater' because it is made up of poem or songs.

Anyway,

Psalm 111.

Is it read 'Psalm one hundread eleven'? I'm really curious.

Many thanks,
sweetpumpkin

There's no set way of saying a bible reference - any of the examples you gave are fine. It would depend how well the listener understood the structure of the bible. "One Samuel one, 16" would most likely be understood by someone familiar with the bible, whereas "One Samuel [sometimes, First Samuel] Chapter One, verse 16" would be better for those less familiar. The only comment is that "One Samuel" might be more common that "Samuel One" but the latter is not incorrect.

(also "Psalm one hundred and eleven", same as any normal number).

Happy reading.

Million thanks,

We have a set way to read a bible reference here. Smile I thought maybe natives also have that kind of way.
