Phrase "to generate from another or from a set of others" #1 (permalink) Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:49 pm   Phrase "to generate from another or from a set of others"

hello,
does this phrasal verb also mean "to generate from another or from a set of others."?
when a word is generated (derived) from another one, can I informally say that one "comes from" the other?
thanks.

.
Which phrasal verb?

Yes, you could say that, I think, but 'generated/derived/produced' are better.

I don't think that 'come from' is a phrasal verb; it is just 'come' + preposition.
