hello

I want to know the differences between "former" and" previous".
I mean the usages of the two words and whether they can be interchangeably used.

Thanks in advance

former" VS" previous" #2 (permalink) Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:00 am   former" VS" previous"

Hi,

'Former' usually refers to someone who has has held some kind of position/office as in: The former Secretary General. 'Previous' simply refers to 'the one before' as in: The previous speaker in the discussion spoke more clearly than the next one.
