Dear Friends,

Look at the following sentence:

For example, when, on entering her son’s untidy room, a mother says to her son I love children who keep their rooms clean, she may be simply alluding to her expectation or desire for her son to clean up his room.

My question is:

Should I put a comma after 'room', since I am using 'on entering her son's untidy room' in a restrictive sense? I suppose the comma is not needed but what do you natives think?

Thanks a lot.

I am not a native but I would keep it as it is i.e., comma after both - 'when' and 'room'.

Can anyone please tell me whether should I insert a comma after 'native' in the sentence above? :)

Hi Gray,

Too many commas distract the eye! I wouldn't put a comma after 'native' as 'but' is strong enough to hold its own.

About commas, they taught us in school, "When in doubt, leave it out."
