Dear English Coaches,
Please verify if my comments in the brackets are correct.
1. -Teaching- Algebra is difficult. (Gerund)
2. -The teaching of- Algebra is difficult. (Not Gerund, but used as Noun)
3. -Hunting- tiger is his hobby. (Gerund).
4. -Playing- football, he hurt his leg. (Not Gerund but Present Participle)
5. The thief jumped from a/the -running- train. (Not Gerund but Present Participle)
6. -The hunting of- tiger is his hobby. (Not gerund but used as Noun)
7. I heard of Rama -having won- a prize. (Gerund - Active perfect)
8. I heard of his -having been caught- while stealing. (Gerund - Passive perfect)
9. After -winning- the semifinals, he went on to play in the finals. (Gerund)
10. He talked of/about -coming- to the party. (Gerund)
11. I hope you will excuse my -leaving- early. (gerund)
12. -Losing- his job pushed him beyond the brink of sanity. (Gerund)
13. -Wading- through numerous journal articles,
I reviewed the latest development in politics.(Not Gerund Present Participle)
14. Mohan kept asking Bill. (Gerund)
15. Mohan suggested asking Bill. (Gerund)
16. Mohan suggested -the asking of- Bill. (Not gerund, but used as noun)
17. Coming so often and going so often bothers me. (Gerund)
18. It is impossible to thread a needle without -looking-. (Gerund)
19. David was a -traveling- salesman. (Not Gerund, but used as adjective)
20. His explanation was confusing. (Not gerund, but used as predicate adjective)

Please also check any grammar mistakes in the above sentences.

All are fine, except:

2. -The teaching of- Algebra is difficult. (Gerund)
5. The thief jumped from a/the -running- train. (Participle used as adjective)
6. -The hunting of- tigers is his hobby. (Gerund)
7. I heard of Rama's -having won- a prize. (Gerund - Active perfect)
16. Mohan suggested -the asking of- Bill. (gerund)
19. David was a -traveling- salesman. (participle used as adjective)
20. His explanation was confusing. (participle used as predicate adjective)

Gerunds are -ing verb forms used as nouns, which includes your #2,6,16.

Respected Mr. Micawber,
How can I make the following sentences using gerunds ?
1. The thief jumped from a/the -running- train. (Participle used as adjective)
2. -Wading- through numerous journal articles,
I reviewed the latest development in politics.(Not Gerund Present Participle)
3. David was a -traveling- salesman. (participle used as adjective)
4. His explanation was confusing. (participle used as predicate adjective)
Please help by revising the sentences which should have near or same meanings.
Check the followings with my comments in the brackets
5. In spite of -studying- a lot he didn't pass the exams. (Gerund)
6. Her having got a new job meant leaving behind her old job.
[having => gerund, leaving => gerund]
7. I am considering sleeping over, if you do not mind.
[considering => Present participle, sleeping => gerund]
8. Ramu wanted to learn silk screening.
[to learn => infinitive, screening => gerund]
9. He went on talking, not understanding the real matter.
[talking & understanding => gerunds]
Are the following grammatically correct?
10. It's no use to Worry it.
11. It's no use to Worry about it.
12. It's no use Worrying it.
13. It's no use Worrying about it.
14. It's no use -of- Worrying -about- it.
15. What's the use of worrying about it?
16. It is no use to cry like a baby.

Some of them contain gerunds already; some you can change by copying the structure of related sentences; and others cannot be restructured to contain gerunds. Feel free to post your efforts.

I. As instructed, I revised below the statements to be in gerund form.
Are they correct?
1. From a/the -running- train, the thief jumped.
2. I reviewed the latest development in politics
by -Wading- through numerous journal articles.
3. A -traveling- salesman was David.
4. -Confusing- explanation was his statement.
II. Please kindly answer if 5,6,7,8 & 9 - statements are in gerund forms.
III. Please confirm whether 10,11,12,13,14,15 & 16 statements
are grammatically correct or not.

All of those sentences must be revised so that they are the same as #13 and #15.
