A short question concerning the pronunciation of 'ow' #1 (permalink) Wed Jan 21, 2009 11:31 am   A short question concerning the pronunciation of 'ow'

Hello ,
I've got a short question about the different pronunciation of the two letters ' ow'.

In the words now and how it is pronounced differently as in the words below, know or show.

Is there a special rule which can explain that?

Thanks for your answers!

Yours

.
No, there is no special rule. The reasons for many of the variations in English pronunciation of letters and letter combinations are lost to all except historical linguists.
