i say 1-when i was in high school or when i were in high school
please correct me as soon as possible cause I have an exam tomorrow

definitely "When I was in high school"

"I" is taken as singular so we use "was" but when the sentence starts with "If" like in "If I were a princess" then we use "were" instead of "was". I hope this helps.

toward = towards ; among = amongst ; while = whilst. All of these are basically just variant pairs.
