Hi everybody. Please let me know if you can give some advice on the following question. I have a D-Link wireless router. My Vista laptop connects to the router without any problems. However, my wife has an XP desktop and I've recently purchased a wireless Netgear USB adapter (wg111v3) to connect her machine to the router too. The Netgear adapter finds connects wireless to the router but it fails to establish an Internet connection. When I use the Windows 'repair connection' feature, the system can't acquire a new IP. DHCP is enabled.

When I connect the computer and the router by cable the Internet connection gets established immediately.

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem but rather a Windows XP problem.

Anyone experienced something similar?

Many thanks,
Torsten

I think the problem is wireless standard (A,B,N,etc standard). you can find in configure page of wireless router.
Lower down the wireless standard for appropriate of wireless netgear usb adapter.

Assuming you have a WEP enabled router, my guess your USB wireless adapter is the cause of the problem.
I would:
1st) disable the WEP encryption and try to connect to your D-LINK router;
2nd) replace your USB adapter with another brand;
3rd) return USB adapter and purchase a PCI card (D-LINK; Linksys...)
Good luck,
J.
