Yet another question... (I haven't bought a car yet.) #1 (permalink) Sun Jan 25, 2009 0:09 am   Yet another question... (I haven't bought a car yet.)

Hi everyone,
This is salman from karachi pakistan.
i'm having problems with the word "YET", I mean i don't understand the usage of this word.
I know how to use this with present perfect:
I also know what it means here
ex:
> I haven't bought a car yet.

but sometimes i get confused
ex:
1. I need Something sweet yet unusual
2. I won, yet again! Wooo Hooo
3. I had yet another nightmare last night
4. She has yet to have a hair cut

i would also like to know if there are any other ways to use this word

thanks......

Hi Salman,

Let me explain:

1. I need something sweet yet unusual Here it means 'but'.
2. I won, yet again! Wooo Hooo. Here it emphasises 'again' as in even one more time.
3. I had yet another nightmare last night. Again this emphasises one more time.
4. She has yet to have a hair cut. Here it means so far, up till now.
