Welcome ladies and gentlemen. My name is Linda Layman, and it's a great privilege for me to welcome our keynote speaker this evening, Samuel Jamison. Mr. Jamison, as you all know, is CEO of Beta Soft Corporation, and is regarded as the country's Most Creative Entrepreneur by the American Business League. In addition to that award, he has earned Wealth Magazine's "Man of the Year" award two times, and, last year, he was named "CEO of the Decade" by Business News Magazine, the first CEO that Business News has ever honored from our state. Mr. Jamison has grown Beta Soft from a two-person organization headquartered in his garage to a multi-billion dollar, multinational corporation in only 10 short years. You all know that. What you might not know is that Mr. Jamison founded two businesses that failed prior to Beta Soft, and that starting his third - and most successful - venture was actually his wife's idea. Ladies and gentlemen, join me in giving a big hand to our keynote speaker, Mr. Samuel Jamison.

Hello Lyubomir,

How are things with you today in Bulgaria? Thank you very much for posting your recording. I could understand everything and you are on the right track to improving your pronunciation. One thing I'd like you to check into is your microphone settings. On your recording there is quite some background noise which gets in the way when you listen to it.

Also, please record the abbreviation CEO again trying to pronounce it as an abbreviation rather than an acronym. This means you should pronounce every letter separately instead of reading them as one word.

Many thanks,
Torsten

— Wow, James! That's quite a stack of books. It looks like you're studying for an exam.
— Oh I'm studying, but not for an exam. I've been doing some research at the company library for a report on psychological investing. Did you know that some firms use psychology research to develop products like personality tests and employee performance evaluations? They believe it gives them an edge in hiring quality workers and ensuring top-notch performance.
— Oh yeah, I've heard about that. It's called psychometrics. I minored in psychology before I got into stock analysis.
— Really? Could you do me a favor, then? Would you please review my first draft? Mr. Spencer wants this report tomorrow, and I'd appreciate it greatly if you'd provide some feedback. If you could, I'll treat you to an early dinner at the Chinese restaurant around the corner.

Hello, I'm a Polish student and I'm studying English Filology. I have a big problem with pronounciation. Please listen to my recording and respond with a voice message too. Many thanks. Text for this recording:
When I was in Derby, I met a man who was a sergeant in the army. It happened while I was sitting in a pub. The beer wasn't very bad but I didn't feel good there. My car has broken down and I was a bit angry. So when he sat down next to me and started talking, I wasn't very pleased. With an empty glass in his hand, he looked very unhappy. No wonder - there was peace. Deep in his heart he wanted to go to war. Strangely enough his sad words made me laugh. For a while I thought he'd beat me up but he calmed down. He didn't like my lack of tact. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut.

We are pleased to announce the grand opening of our company's new day-care center, located on the third floor next to the lunch room. The center is open to employees' children between the ages of 2 and 5. Starting next Monday, eligible employees can drop off their youngsters at the day-care center beginning at 7 a.m., and pick them up no later than 6 p.m. The cost is $20 an hour per child, and includes lunch and snacks. For those who work part-time, half-day and drop-in options are available. Our center features six experienced teachers, and includes modern play equipment and learning materials. It has 3,000 square feet, including a main play area, a lunch room, and three separate class rooms: one for two- and three-year-olds, one for four-year-olds, and one for five-year-olds. Don't worry, moms and dads. Your children will be safe, warm, and, best of all, nearby! You are welcome to visit them on the third floor during lunch hour and work breaks

— Hello, I transferred money between my accounts online, but it doesn't appear that it's gone through.
— When did you make the transaction?
— Last week, on Friday evening. I have the confirmation number if you need it.
— That's okay. The money should be in your account by this afternoon. Since the banks don't operate on weekends, these don't get processed until the following Monday.
