In Azerbaijan we learn British english and we take this test.but in spoken language i use both of them.

Whereas I love American accent, I try to pronounce it like Americans, thus: "Direct"

In either way it sounds good to me but maybe [ai] is better

I always remind my pupils there are two ways of pronouncing this word.
