How can I pronunciate a words which are plural? #2 (permalink) Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:37 am   How can I pronunciate a words which are plural?

Daidi,
Most word in English are made plural by adding an -s (or -es) to the word. This spelling can be either voiced or unvoiced (sound like an 's' or a 'z'). You can see a s and z how-to video that I made, which might help you.
Good luck!!

I will go a little further. If the singular word ends with b, d, g, j, l, m, n, r, v, or z the plural (or possessive) s will have a z sound. This is also true if the word ends in a vowel sound.

If it ends in c, f, k, p, q, s, t, or x the s has an s sound.

If the singular word ends with a silent e then the s = z

if it ends with th (even if the singular form is the voiceless th as in three), the th becomes voiced (as in the and this) and s=z

finally, if the singular form ends in ss, -es is added and the e is pronounced (sounds like leg or red) and the s = s
