Hi guys, I am Iranian, we have lots of phrases for saying thank you. Like, 'mersi', 'Dastet dard nakone', Motshakeram', 'Damet garm' (lol, this one is really informal), 'Mamnoonam' and lots of other phrases.

Hello, Miximixi ^^; I couldn't help but notice the similarity between the Iranian "Motshakeram" and the Arabic "Motshaker/Mut-sha-'kir" and "mamnoonam" and "mamnoon"=grateful.

Hola, Lourdes ^^; I'm studying Spanish and this is the first time I come across this expression "muy agradecido". Is it widely used in all Spanish-speaking countries or is it used in your country only?

Hi Gemini Alpha Female, Wow, you have a really long username, is it ok if I call you GAF? Ok, about the similarities, do you know why we have lot's of phrases for saying thank you in my language? the answer is simple, because we have lots of non-native phrases in our language and also there are many accents and other types of languages in my country. For example, in Iran everybody are Iranian, but in most of the cities, people used to talk in a different language, you know, the major language of us is Persian, but in the North-west of the Iran people talks in Turkish, in the west Arabic, Kurdish, etc. in south Arabic with a really different accent, in east we have other languages and in north of the country people talk in 'Shomali' language. In most of these languages the structure of talking and also the words differers with the original Persian language. And those two word you mentioned are examples for what I am trying to tell you. They are Arabic and are imported from the southern cities to our language. the word 'Merci' or 'Mersi' is French, but now it's the most widespread word among all the peoples of my country for the times they want to appreciate someone's help or kindness.

It's very interesting to me, Mixmixi ^^; how some languages overlap. You've just given me a new idea for a topic in the what-you-do-you-wanna-talk-about forum -_^. Maybe you'd be interested in joining the discussion?

Hi Gemini; So you know as a Spanish student, the Spanish has many forms to say the same thing and it doesn't change the meaning of the sentence. for instance if you want to say "Gracias" you also can say : "muy agradecido/a", se lo agradezco", "muchas gracias", it depends if you're speaking a formal or informal Spanish. So: "gracias" and "muchas gracias"=informal (common) "muy agradicido/a" and "se lo agradezco" = formal (use in special cases in formal conversations) but both are using in every part of my city and others cities too. All of those expressions are part of our language. |

Hi everybody,
I am Hoado. I am from Vietnam. "Thank you very much" in Vietnamese is "Cam on nhieu", or "Rat cam on". Sometimes a person can say "rat cam ta", or "rat cam kich".

| Hello everyone. I'm from Bulgaria and my native language is Bulgarian. In Bulgarian thank you is 'Blagodaria'/'Благодаря'. The word 'blagodaria' comprises two words : blago and daria, which mean good and give you, or in other words 'blagodaria' means 'I give you good' |
