The compnaies - that - are receiving the funds from the TARP.
The compnaies - which - are receiving the funds from the TARP.

I can not understand the difference for these two words in usage.

In which situation I should use "that"?
In which situation I should use "which"?

Thanks,
Suresh

Hi,
"That" can be used like "who, which" in defining clauses, but in non-defining ones "that" can't be used.
The boy who/that is playing the violin is my son.
The boy,who is playing the violin,is my son.

Morteza

Hi,
Briefly,Non-defining clauses come between two commas, and we can't use "that" there.
