NY times has this as one of the headlines --

"Bonus Cuts Hurt More Than Wall Streeters"

Is it correct to use "streeters" this way? I couldn't find any dictionary reference for it.

Confused

Hello Gray,

You won't find every proper noun or every possible form of every proper noun in a dictionary. However, you will be able to find some of them. Sometimes you will only find a listing under the "base form" of a proper noun.

"Wall Streeter" follows the same pattern as "Fleet Streeter", by the way.

You might not be able to find a word such as "IBMer" in a dictionary, but that would not be an unusual usage either.

Hi Gray,

It's common practice to add 'er' on the end of a word when you want to refer to people doing a particular thing or associated with it. It's possible to say: Primrose Hillers - people who live in a London district called 'Primrose Hill'. It is used often to suggest camaraderie or community.
