Pam: Can you see my future in the crystal ball? What will happen next year? Fortune Teller: You will meet a man from the East Coast, perhaps New York or maybe Boston. You will marry that mystery man. Pam: Forget the man! I want to know if I get a new job.
You do not use future tense after if or when.
I do not have time to look for a reference now, but I might find it later. _________________ con·text - The part of a text or statement that surrounds a particular word or passage and determines its meaning. |

Hello Penuel, I'd say the word "if" is used to mean "whether" in your sentence, and therefore it is not actually a conditional sentence:
- I want to know whether I will get a new job.
In other words, the sentence means "I want to know this: Will I get a new job or not?"

Hi Penuel,
The question is what you would use instead of 'will get' in that last sentence. It suggests 'if I am going to get a new job'.

Its a question, isn't it? I think that it should be more appropriate like this: I want to know, will I get a new job or not?
Please correct me if I am wrong in this message. |

| That is a different kind of question: look up "indirect question" and "direct question". |
