I have added normal punctuation and capitalization. I have have marked subordinate clauses and pseudo-clauses with brackets [...], verbs and semi-verbs in bold. I have also added "what" in {...} because the sentence seemed incomplete without it.
Bob told me [that he had become fascinated by bamboo [when, as a student, he went on an agricultural study trip to Asia]]. While in Vietnam he had stayed in a stilt house and [after climbing the stairs to the first (and only) floor] he was surprised, and a little alarmed, to discover [{what} the floor was made with]. “I could see through the floor very easily,” recalls Bob, “and the strips were quite narrow, not whole poles of bamboo; I just knew [I was going to fall through it].” |

Thank you on the analysis, and would like to ask you for some more help. I have to divide the compound sentences and mark the sentences concluded as for example: compound= complex + main clause ,etc... and beside the subject and the verb the other functional parts as DO, IO, OC, Adjuncts. |

| Well, I'm afraid I do not understand exactly what you mean by that second sentence. Why not do it yourself, wouldn't you learn more? I am sure someone here would be willing to correct it for you. |
