when I've read a book in English for Grade 3, somehow it confused me with the appropriate use of possessive nouns? It includes some examples below:

Botanists' books?

Botanists' book? ,

for me, the correct one is the first sample, am i correct?? please answer..i need it now,so that i'll not be confused in my demo teaching..thank you..[/code]

The second one would be correct only if a bunch of botanists wrote one book!

I agree, the s in "books" is of the plural. So both are possible depending on context.
