Yes, they fled for their lives because they were so scared. As you pointed out fled is the simple past form of the verb flee which means to run or move very fast in order to escape. Flew wouldn't work here because this is the simple past form of the verb fly and as you remember we are talking about frogs who clearly can't fly.

Fled in fear of losing their life, so yes, 'fled to survive' would be one way of thinking about it - though the term is not always used literally. It might just mean they were very scared so they fled. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
